Tanzania On Foot

On this exceptional itinerary we enjoy a combination of a walking and vehicle safari in the Serengeti National Park and the Ngorongoro Crater with an ascent of Mount Meru (4566m) and an ascent via the Rongai Route to the summit of Mt Kilimanjaro (5895m). We spend time game viewing in the Serengeti where we hope to view the migration of the wildebeest (subject to season). At the Ngorongoro Crater we prepare for unsurpassed game viewing as within the crater are most species of East Africa's wildlife including the rare Black Rhino and large prides of lion. High above the crater rim our Masai guides lead us on a climb up Mt Lemagrut (3300m) which is a good training run for our next objective, an ascent of Mt Meru. Mt Meru is the best way to acclimatise for 'Kili' and is a steep and demanding climb in itself. On summit day the steep ridgeline ascent is spectacular with views over to Kilimanjaro. Its slopes are home to a large wildlife population including elephants and Mountain Reedbuck. Fit and acclimatised, and in the company of our experienced guides and crew we follow the relatively remote Rongai Route via Kibo and hope to enjoy spectacular sunrise views from the summit of Africa. The East African Rift has created some of the greatest volcanoes on earth, and this truly unique walking itinerary offers the opportunity to climb three of the best.
