Antarctic Explorer

Just a belated thank you to World Expeditions for the wonderful trip to the Antarctic my sister and I joined last December. From the first day, it was agreed that 1 day on a plane and 2 1/2 days on a ship was a small price to pay to have the chance to enjoy such an amazing experience. The ship was comfortable and crewed by an excellent staff; the size of the vessel was perfect to allow maximum opportunity for the four dozen or so passengers to enjoy the experience (contrasted to many of the other vessels we saw in port in Ushuaia).
Furthermore, the guides provided were professional, knowledgeable and friendly, adding to the great atmosphere of the journey. Our fellow travellers were an outgoing and welcoming bunch too, which made for a wonderful time. I wholeheartedly commend World Expeditions to anyone as a first rate provider of adventure travel - I can't wait for my next opportunity to try another experience (perhaps Kenya at a quiet moment). My sincere thanks to the team.

South Georgia & Antarctic Peninsula

South Georgia is without doubt an island of incomparable beauty. The northern flanks of the island comprise of a series of harbours that once sheltered large fleets of whaling ships and are now home to a staggering variety and profusion of wildlife. Combine this with time to explore the natural wonders of the Falklands, the Orkneys, the Shetlands and the spectacular Antarctic Peninsula and you have the essence of this remarkable voyage. Four days are spent in South Georgia, visiting rookeries with literally thousands of King, Macaroni and Rockhopper Penguins. For the adventurous there is an option to attempt an alpine crossing of the island in the footsteps of Shackleton on the February departure. We reunite with the crossing party and continue the voyage to the Antarctic, visiting the South Orkney Islands enroute and attempting to land on the wild and spectacular Elephant Island. Exploring the western flanks of the Antarctic Peninsula provides a further highlight and, as with our other voyages to Antarctica we have time for regular shore excursions to walk among the many penguins and seals and visit the scientific stations.
